PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma therapy, it uses your own blood to encourage natural hair growth and increase the thickness of the hair. Although there have not been sufficient validated clinical studies proving the treatment, there is enough evidence indicating that some people can benefit from PRP for hair loss particularly for androgenetic alopecia for men and women.
The PRP treatment process for hair loss is a quick, three step medical treatment, it is cheaper than hair transplants and has long lasting results.
First, a small quantity of your blood will be taken during the treatment to be placed into a centrifuge to be separated into three layers: plasma on top, platelets and blood cells in the middle, and red blood cells at the bottom. The centre part is where PRP will be derived from, it contains a high concentration of platelets with specific cells rich in growth factors which will encourage hair rejuvenation.
To apply PRP on the treated scalp area we use microneedling - short, fine needles to puncture the skin (but will only reach skin-deep). This process allows the PRP to penetrate deeper and helps to stimulate the repair and regeneration process of the hair.
Some people may not be suitable for the treatment, for example people with platelet disorders, we strongly advise new customers to book an initial consultation to discuss your need, and whether this treatment suits you.
##What should I expect after the treatment?
Results from this procedure are visible after three weeks, but optimal collagen regeneration for the skin on the scalp takes up to three months.
Keep in mind that results will look different for everyone based on overall health, blood platelet levels, and hair health.
##What is the after care?
Avoid washing your hair or scalp for 24 hours following treatment.
